When setting up your new electrical service some fees and charges
may be incurred.
A refundable security deposit may be required by Maritime Electric
and can range from a minimum of $100 to a maximum of two month's estimated
billing. Interest will be paid on your deposit.
A connection fee will be charged for most initial service connections
including metered temporary facilities. If the connection is not
within Maritime Electric's regular business hours, additional charges
may be applied.
If serving your electrical entrance requires an extension of overhead,
underground or optional facilities, you may incur additional charges.
Please consult your Maritime Electric representative for more details.
All customers bills are subject to a service charge and/or a demand
charge and an energy charge.
All residential customers and most churches and farms are billed
a service charge to cover the cost of the equipment required to
service the customer and the maintenance to that equipment.
Commercial customers may be billed a demand charge. The demand charge
is based on a measure of the maximum amount of energy required during
any 15 minute interval in a month. Customers with high demands require
more costly equipment to provide the electricity to serve their maximum
loads at any time.
The energy charge is a rate applied to the kilowatt hours consumed.
This charge is primarily related to the cost of generated or purchased
energy.

Are
you building a new home, cottage or commercial building?
If so, the installation of your new service will require a site
visit from our staff and government personnel.
The first step is a call to the Maritime Electric customer service center toll free at 1-800-670-1012
with the necessary information such as the location,
type of service,(i.e. mobile home, house, apartment), contact
telephone number(s), contact person(s), and expected date of completion.
A representative from Maritime Electric will visit your site
at no charge to stake the service location, review easements,
prepare cost estimates and make payment arrangements for your
service line charges.
Next you must contact a licensed electrician who will
install a temporary service and prepare the dwelling for service
connection.
The site will require a certificate of inspection from the PEI
Provincial Electrical Inspection Department. Your electrician will
arrange for this inspection.
The Electrical Inspection Department will inspect the new service.
Upon approval of the site by the electrical inspection, a Maritime Electric
crew will be in a position to construct the service line to your
dwelling, install a transformer (if necessary) and a meter.
