ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY


Maritime Electric is the primary supplier of electricity on Prince Edward Island and is committed to the protection of the environment. Maritime Electric endeavors to continually improve its operations and work practices with the aim of preventing pollution by maintaining an effective environmental management system.

Maritime Electric will meet these commitments through the following principles:

Work Practices: Establish and continually review Maritime Electric work practices that affect the environment, including emergency response actions.

Employee Training: Train employees to ensure their work is conducted in an environmentally responsible manner.

Waste Management: Reduce wastes by participating in recycling programs.

Preventive Maintenance: Reduce the risk of releases and oil spills by continuing inspection and maintenance programs.

Environmental Performance: Conduct audits to ensure compliance with the corporate environmental management system and to identify opportunities for improved environmental performance.

Regulatory Compliance:Comply with all applicable Federal, Provincial and Municipal environmental legislation and regulations.

Other Environmental Responsibilities: Comply with environmental responsibilities that are recognized as good utility practices, including participation in the Canadian Electricity Association’s Environmental Commitment and Responsibility Program.

Environmental objectives and measurable targets for improving the Company’s environmental performance shall be set and approved annually. Progress in achieving the targets will be evaluated annually by Maritime Electric’s Executive and will be communicated to employees.
