Where Does Your Electricity Dollar Go?
Do you wonder where your electricity dollar goes? The pie chart below illustrates how your electricity dollar is spent. 70% of your electricity dollar goes to electricity supply and 30% goes to electricity delivery.
Electricity supply is the electricity that powers your home. Maritime Electric purchases most of the electricity supply and the cost flows through to customers without a markup. Similarly, there is no markup on the cost of fuel that Maritime Electric uses to generate electricity.
Maritime Electric does not make more profit if you use more electricity and we do not make less profit if you use less.
The electricity delivery cost includes the cost to build, operate and maintain substations, poles, wires and all other costs associated with running the utility on PEI.
All our costs are subject to review and approval by the Island Regulatory Appeals Commission (IRAC), our regulator.
