Junior Transmission Planning Engineer

Maritime Electric Company, Limited is seeking candidates for the position of Junior Transmission Planning Engineer

 The Junior Transmission Planning Engineer is a member of the Corporate and Capital Planning department and reports to the Transmission Planning Engineer. This role is responsible for assisting the Transmission Planning Engineer in assessing the present and future needs of PEI’s transmission network using power system modeling tools. The Junior Transmission Planning Engineer will also assist with studying the proposed interconnection of renewable energy resources into PEI’s transmission network, evaluating the technical implications of such integrations.

The skills and knowledge required by the successful candidate are but not limited to:

  • Organizational and problem-solving skills, ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to effectively communicate plans, directives, and objectives.
  • Ability to use standard industry design/analysis software.
  • Working knowledge and effective use of computer programs, such as spreadsheets, word processors, and presentation software.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with strong academic background in power systems, expertise in planning and operation of transmission systems, and knowledge of power utility business, transmission services and public utility regulation.

Some of the primary duties and responsibilities of this position include performing near-term power system studies to identify system vulnerabilities and developing mitigation techniques that meet safety, reliability, and cost requirements; supporting transmission projects through the regulatory approval process for capital investment, including preparing project description and justification information, as well as interrogatory responses, as required; and reviewing proposed generation facilities including conceptual designs for interconnection of the project to the transmission system and associated modeling data provided for the project.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and is eligible for registration with Engineers PEI. While all applicants are encouraged to apply, the ideal candidate will have a well-developed knowledge on the transmission and distribution systems with related experience working for an electric utility.

This position offers a competitive and comprehensive compensation and benefits package. The pay range for this position is between $74,000 and $99,000 per annum.
