Proposed Transmission Line
Maritime Electric is proposing to construct a new 138 kV transmission line. Find out more about the proposed project.
Your April bill reflects the implementation of HST effective April 1, 2013. As per the
Retail Sales Tax Act
passed by the Provincial Government in November 2012, the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) will come into effect on April 1, 2013.
Under this Act, Maritime Electric customers’ electricity bills will be taxed at a rate of 14%. Before this Act was implemented, customers’ electricity bills were taxed at the Goods and Services (GST) tax rate of 5%. This means that the tax charged on customers’ electricity bills will increase by 9% after March 31, 2013. On your April 2013 bill (only), GST will be charged based on the proportional number of days up to, and including, March 31, 2013 and HST will be charged based on the proportional number of days during April.
