Temporary Utility Meter Installers (18 Month Term)

Maritime Electric Company, Limited is seeking applicants for the temporary position of Utility Meter Installers.

We are conducting electricity meter replacements and are hiring temporary Utility Meter Installers. This position is responsible for replacing and testing existing electricity meters by installing a new meter at residential or commercial sites to enhance metering solutions, accurately measure consumption, and ensure transmittal of signals to the network. If you consider yourself an independent worker and enjoy being outside, this temporary job is for you.

The successful candidate will hold a high school diploma; basic electrical training is considered an asset; in possession of a valid Class 5 driver license in good standing; have the ability to walk up to 10-15 kilometers per day, work outside in all-weather environments; and have the ability to perform physical duties such as lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 lbs. of force unassisted.

This temporary position is daily Monday to Friday in outdoor work environment including rain, snow, extreme cold, or high heat. You will be driving to and from work sites and may be exposed to road related hazards. You could be exposed to unknown hazards at resident sites such as dogs. Little supervision to give you freedom to work independently and manage your day.

Knowledge and abilities contain but are not limited to:

• Successfully complete the company’s training program related to safety and installation and pass applicable field tests and safety audits.
• Learn and apply safety measures relating to motor vehicle operation and other field related matters.
• Ability to key data into handheld device. Basic computer skills are helpful.
• Attention to detail and accuracy to record meter data.
• Ability to find locations/address by reading a map and handheld device and/or laptop.
• Ability to use hand tools. 
• Ability to perform physical duties such as lifting, pushing, pulling up to 25 lbs. of force unassisted.
